The goals of the Dare County Firewise Council are to:

1. serve as a unified front for developing and distributing educational materials on firewise principles, fire prevention, and prescribed burning for the local fire management agencies including US Fish & Wildlife Service, National Park Service, NC Division of Forest Resources, County Fire Marshal, and fire departments.

2. encourage the local adoption and development of community efforts in wildland fire protection such as participation in the Firewise Communities USA Program and sponsoring of local workdays.

3. serve as an information clearinghouse for education materials, agency policies, grant opportunities, etc. for the participating agencies and local governments.

4. facilitate information sharing and cooperative relations between federal, state, and local governments and agencies in wildland-urban interface issues.

5. encourage discussions on mitigation planning to foster the development of ideas and strategies to lessen the threat of wildland fires to surrounding communities.
